The French go overboard when it comes to organizations and groups devoted to preserving and protecting nature and habitat via biking, recycling (no relation), hiking, walking, gardening, history, biology lectures, health fairs, markets devoted to organic products, special tours to study and identify plants, trees, animals–and national trails criss-cross the entire country, well marked, and provide very comfortable accommodations out in the boondocks where you can stay overnight, do your own cooking, etc.–or, like myself, go off on your own bat and be back in your own bed by nightfall! Having scanned a number of the famous tourist guides it does not appear anywhere–once or twice just in passing but for all practical purposes completely off the radar (hooray!) It turned out to be the best year of my life!! The map shows some of the tiny, serpentine roads that wend through here–lots and lots of valleys, streams, farms, picturesque villages, canals; my friend owns a chambre d’hote near me and for my money it has no rival in ALL of France: it offers the most lush hospitality possible–in the most pristine unsullied part of France–his photos.
